It was the summer of 2000 when my life was changed forever. Actually, life had already been building up to this moment for quite some time. I can really reach back in time and let you know that this “Hopeful Romantic’s” heart was in full bloom even as a little girl watching the classics like Cinderella and Snow White and of course playing with my beloved Barbies.
I remember that I would choose my favorite Barbie to play myself and I would dream up some big fairy tale adventure about how my Prince (Rock Star Ken, in this case) would come for me. Of course, he would always come riding on a white horse. I cannot tell you how many times that I had those Barbies rehearse this drama. Somehow, it just never got old to me.
So, in the summer of 2000, I was a counselor at our church’s summer youth camp. It was a pretty tough week. I remember those who had come from our home church were pretty broken because our pastor’s wife, Helen Watkins, had just passed away due to heart problems. Some of us had to actually leave the camp in order to go to her funeral. I was devastated.
I wish you could have seen their love story. Pastor Watkins and Helen were so inspiring. In this world where so many couples have horrible marriages and selfish relationships, their love story profoundly impacted me. It had given me hope.
It was Thursday night of our youth camp. The evening service was ending and the girls that I was counseling had left their seats to go and pray at the altar. I was moving out of my seat to go and pray with them, when I heard the Lord whisper to me, “Stay here, I want to talk with you.”
At that point, I began to cry. “Why did Helen have to go? Pastor and Helen were my inspiration. Why now? Their love affair is a legacy. I will tell my own children about Pastor and Helen and how beautiful they were together.”
That’s when I heard God whisper to me, “Amber, I want our love affair to be a legacy.”
He continued to show me in His Word of His own longing to have a love affair between Himself and His bride, which included me! He spoke to me about what I have come to know as “The Great Legacy Love Affair.”
From that moment on, I began to search out the heart of God and what it meant to be His and to share with Him in this great legacy love affair. In all of this, I also discovered some power things about purity and it’s role in my relationship with God, my future husband and my purpose in life. Needless to say, God has revolutionized my entire life.
Sacred Revolution Ministries was born out of this adventure. It is my heart to be a companion to those who need encouragement and inspiration in their quest to find the heart of a sacred God. He is the only place where we are satisfied and the only place where Happily-Ever-After will be found.
Sacred means to be holy, pure, set apart for service and worship to God.
Revolution (or Revolt) is a sudden, radical, or complete change. It is the overthrow of one ruler and establishing the replacement of another, by those who are being governed.
Back in the 1960’s, the culture was driven to revolt against morals, self-control, and modesty. They called it the “Sexual Revolution” encouraging one another to throw off restraint and embrace whatever indulgence made you feel happy. It turns out that a lot of what that generation found hasn’t turned out so happy in the end.
We were made in the very image of a sacred God. Until we come to the place where we realize this and take our rightful place in His kingdom, we will keep searching for fulfillment only to come up empty again.
Until this moment in your life, what has ruled you? Is it popularity, sports, relationships, money, or the empty, constant search to satisfy self?
It is only when Jesus Christ is the Ruler of our life and the Influencer of our decisions that we will walk in victorious peace and power.
It is time to stand up and take your place. This is what you were born for. It is your destiny to be counted with Christ. We urge you to accept this heritage that God has offered you as a son or daughter. Jesus paid for it with His own life.
It is time for a sacred revolution! Let us throw off this world and all its temporary “charms” in order to live the adventurous life with Christ that many only ever dream about. Are you in?
I met my husband, Brian, for the first time in January of 2009 and we were married in October of 2010. There is a whole lot more to the story. To read about it, I encourage you to check out my book, Searching for Happily-Ever-After: A Companion for the Lady who Waits.
He is the love of my life and I am truly amazed at what “God has joined together.” He is a wonderful man of godliness, integrity, generosity and love. I tell Brian that I want to be like him when I grow up! God has written a beautiful love story and I’m glad I waited for Him to do so. It was so worth the wait!
